Professor Haas

Ever get super nervous about having to do something, only to find out it gave you a huge rush of energy and joy?! I was invited to guest teach as part Dr. Kramer's Kutztown University’s FINA 386 class on September 18th. The College of Business has a Personal Financial Planning major, and I’ve been proud to partner with Dr. Kramer as a local practitioner through student interactions, a paid internship this semester, as a member on the program’s advisory board and now... as a guest teacher.

The presentation I created entitled “ABCs of Psychology in Financial Planning” centered around how the future of the financial planning profession needs to combine math and financial concepts with strong communication skills and an understanding of human psychology in order to guide clients to better outcomes. Studies have shown that many clients only implement a small fraction of financial planner’s recommendations. That reality is a big part of the reason I pursued the Accredited Behavioral Finance Professional designation through the College for Financial Planning back in 2021, and why I’ve been so passionate about helping these future financial planners at KU learn the things that I've observed with my clients over time.

What’s so cool about the Personal Financial Planning program is that Kutztown University of Pennsylvania is the only state school in eastern Pennsylvania to offer a Certified Financial Planner (CFP®) Board Registered program. What does that mean? Well, anyone that aspires to be a CFP® needs to meet certain education requirements before taking the exam. And KU’s degree meets those requirements. It not only prepares students to sit for the CFP® exam as soon as they graduate but allows them to work with real CFP® professionals on campus. I’m proud to be one of those professionals.

Who knows, maybe one day I'll obtain my Master’s Degree in Personal Financial Planning and follow my father's footsteps to become an actual teacher and not just a guest presenter?! Professor Haas does have a certain ring to it…
