Sometimes It's The Little Things
It’s very easy to get wrapped up in the day-to-day busyness of life or focused too much on the big picture to appreciate the little things that pass us by. This past week was a good reminder for me to savor some of life’s little moments.
Some of you may know this about me, but I’m not always good at being a spontaneous person. I can already hear my wife, Amy, laughing maniacally at the “not always” part, but I’m a planner, what am I supposed to do, not plan!? We’ve been pretty busy in our house for a few weeks with work, family life and hobbies, so in the middle of the week after getting home from work, Amy said” I don’t know what you were planning to make for dinner, but I don’t want it. Let’s take the kids to Plum Creek Creamery for ice cream and soft pretzels for dinner.” And I made the right decision by giving the correct answer of, “sounds good, let’s go!”
For those that don’t know about Plum Creek Creamery, it’s located in Bernville, and they recently expanded into a huge, beautiful building complete with the Creamery, Farmer’s Market and all sorts of homemade deliciousness. Pretty much everything is made in-house – they make their own soft-serve ice cream that has surpassed our family’s benchmark of Rita’s custard. They make their own hand-scooped ice cream, their own Italian ice, soft pretzels, the list goes on and on. We haven’t ever ordered anything that we didn’t like.
It was such a simple thing in the grand scheme, but it was so nice to unplug, relax with some excellent treats and enjoy the little things in life – spending time with Amy and the girls on a warm summer evening. And if you ever find yourself in the area, I highly recommend adding a soft pretzel to your ice cream order, you won’t regret it!
